Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

Texan here; Spyderco Ronin and Shivworks Clinch Pick are my usual FB knives.

If I could not carry a firearm virtually everywhere, due to my peace officer status, I would carry one of my Shivworks Disciples or one of my custom Jens Anso Pikals much more often.

I am not a big fan of fixed blade carry. However, on occasion I do carry this Kershaw Military Boot Knife and it is more than satisfactory. It has a 4.5" blade so it is not a very large knife overall and comes with a kydex sheath that can be used to carry the knife in a variety of ways.

I carry a Mickey Yurco custom push blade as my main EDC knife, or a Graham Brothers Ringed Razel (reasonable price, and built like a tank) in my bug out bag.
I'm a big fan of fixed blade carry. Check out Stellar Rigs or Survival Sheaths sites for some nice CC options.

Might want to look at this: Spyderco Street Beat. I don't own it but am thinking about buying one.

I've been carrying a Kabar TDI. Quick draw, with a low profile. Not to mention enough knife to get the job done.

Mighty fine looking blade there, but for $250 MSRP? I can design my own knife and have it hand-made for that kind of scratch.

Edit: This blade seems to be running for around $95-115 under MSRP. Doesn't seem to selling too hot if the typical online price point is any indication and knives hold the typical retail mark-up.

Online dealers charging a little more than 1/2 of MSRP seems to be pretty standard for Spyderco. I love my Street Beat. I paid $130.00 for it.

Queensidecas, I'm not sure what you mean when you say hit grip. I've never heard that term before. That said, I avoid knives that have pronounced finger grooves. They limit your grip options.

BTW that clinch Pick looks incredible and fills the self defense niche I am trying to correct perfectly! It is too expensive though. I do like what the Shivworks guys have to say about various topics on thier website.

Has anyone here ever had to pull a knife in a life threatening situation?
I had a dog attack me once years ago in Pittsburgh at night. A german shepard suddenly took exception to my peaceful stroll down the sidewalk and jumped out of it's fenced yard. A split second later, it was barreling down on me growling and I pulled out my Gerber.

Three seconds after that, I was walking away from a dying dog and telling myself I had no choice...

I hate hurting animals, and as such, that was a bad night.
