Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

It depends on how the finger groove(s) are designed. If the designer goes too berserk then yes, that's the case. Make them a bit more shallow besides the finger stops like the Shivworks Disciple and you can use it both blade forward and trailing blade with minimal difficulty.

That is one of the reasons why the Street Beat strikes me as being a bit wonky. Is that large finger groove for the index finger comfortable for your pinky in a trailing blade grip, unloved?

Hit grip is a term used by people that subscribe to the prison verson onf knife combat. Basically you grip the knife in a complete fist and deliver stabs from the hip and immediately retract back to your hip. You cant be disarmed this way and holding in a fist allows you to deliver more power in a stab than any other grip.

The best production knife that I have found for this is the Boker Schanz
Here in Texas you cant carry a "dagger" or anything with a blade over 5.5 inches so that knife is purely for self defense in the home it seems.

I may have been a little unclear. Sorry. What I don't like are finger grooves that are very deep, and have points between them. Like the CRKT Dragon that Queesidecas posted a photo of. I prefer to use an inverted grip (FGEI) primarily. Pointy finger grooves are horribly uncomfortable in this grip. A choil type groove like the Disciple or Street Beat has is no problem.

Yes, it is. The Street Beat is quite comfortable(for me, anyway) in all four of the grips I use.

I edc a small custom fixed blade. Been doing it for about 9mo now. No one has even commented on it. It is well under the blade length limitations, so I am not too concerned.

Guess I'm a weapon freak or something, but when I have to be out and about I've usually got a bunch of stuff on or about my person.

My primary is my Ruger New Vaquero .45 Colt. I know, I know... it's a single action revolver. Slow to fire & slower to reload. I've been shooting the things since I was 10, though, and I'm darned good with one even under severe pressure. This one replaced the larger, heavier Vaquero of a few years ago. It's carried in a Simply Rugged "Sourdough Pancake" on my belt along with 6 extra rounds, (250gr. Gold Dots over 9 gr. of Unique.)

Then there is my CRKT Dragon I carry strung under my right arm where I can get to it with either hand (I'm ambidextrous but shoot more accurately with my left). In a pocket is a small 3-blade Case knife while snagged on the edge of a pocket is a CRKT "B.U.L.L." liner-lock. In my boot laces is a small K.I.S.S. If I'm in the woods I drop the Dragon for a belt knife - usually the Cold Steel 9" Gurka because it can double as a machete in this thick undergrowth.

Then there is the "other stuff" in my pockets... Twenty five feet of quality 550 cord, a Zippo lighter, a red photon light, a pen & tiny notebook. I also carry a 3" by 1/2" square bit of oil-stone for touching up an edge. Upon occasion I also have a 6ft. snakewhip rolled up in my vest pocket.

I don't consider it paranoid, just prepared. It is also a light load, too! I live in Mobile, AL where heat & humidity is an issue. I wear a tee shirt & shorts year around with a multi-pocket vest. No one ever notices my "load out".

I have one and it's a great knife at the price. In a combat situation, I don't know how 'grippable' that smooth handle would be, though.

How do you carry it? I've never found an effective way to conceal it, despite the fact that Kershaw includes straps for belt carry, thigh carry and inside the jacket carry. I tried making a neck cord out of paracord, but it's too bulky to conceal and too heavy to carry this way.

Wish there were a boot clip on the sheath...

Just remember, those who fight with a knife may get shot. Knifes are an excellent weapon if you have the element of surprise, without it and your likely to get shot.

BG’s don’t’ fallow the rules, and if you’re going to be attacked, robed or held up, it will be from a BG carrying a gun. Since you can NOT carry a gun on campus, I’d carry mace, or a tazor.

There's a couple more:

Emerson LaGriffe
RAT Cutlery Izula
Buck Hartsook(really small!)
Also lots of brands make so called kerambits, give them a look as well

@ Ghost tracker, I put my money on the big redneck with the cane, but, I'd doubt if a cane would be of much use in a plane.
There's not enough room to swing your cane at the bad guy.
You'd only be able to poke him, or tickle him to death?
Still, even barehanded, I'd put my money on you, don't worry
