Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

Texas Knife Laws updated?

I was trying to find out if Spring Assisted Knives are legal to carry in Texas when I ran into a forum quoting some legislation that made me think the anwser was "no". But then I found this

81(R) HB 4456 - Senate Committee Report version - Bill Text

"relating to the definition of a switchblade knife..."

which makes me think that they have made a distinction between switchblade automatic knives and spring assisted knives.

"The term does not include a knife that has a spring, detent, or other mechanism designed to create a bias toward closure and that requires exertion applied to the blade by hand, wrist, or arm to overcome the bias toward closure and open the knife."

This went into effect September 1st 2009.

Does anyone else know, or have an opinion, if this new law does indeed legalize carrying a spring assisted knife in Texas?

thanks
