Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

Give him a hand, but it looks like he took care of that already.

Well he might have done a combo strike with the sword. Up across the body and back down the opposite. I know I would do a combo of stabs or slices to stop the threat....I would not slice once...wait to see if that worked and then maybe or maybe not strike a second time.

Like in a fist fight...you going to hit the person once and wait to see if that works? Or are you going to do a combo of strikes to make sure the threat stops.

If I hear a noise in my garage and not sure if it's a cat, raccoon, dog, or person. Or just a loose item that fell. I'll go investigate...if I do and its person/animal and they LUNGE at me I WILL defend my self until the LUNGING stops.... how is investigating a random noise intentionally putting ur self in danger if you don't know it's a dangerous situation..... I would however be armed just INCASE there is a major threat but not sure, hoping/sure it's just some minor loose item that fell etc......how is it this is getting twisted victim is the problem? I mean really.

Are you going to call 911 at every little bump in the night ... or you going see what it was then make an assessment....and if you do attempt to make an assessment you might not be able to retreat because of a lunging threat you didn't know was there...be a person, dog, the garage door spring busting loose and smacking you, or whatever.

I still can't get over the fact he could face charges for defending his stuff and himself, in the middle of the night. I will never understand laws that require you to just stand there and take it up the assets (did that one get by the mods?)

Thank God I live in Texas!

Happy that he is not going to be prosecuted.

Yes, with all due respect to Janq, and his state of residence.

I believe the laws in which he has sighted, that the state imposes on citizens, nerfs their mindsets (not mainly Janq's) to freely defend themselves or their property effectively. How can you effectively defend yourself in a split second scenerio when you have to worry or work around the stringent legal outcomes during a life threating situation. It's like; sure you can carry a weapon to protect yourself....but if you actually use it, then....well, maybe you shouldn't have....just backwards to me.

Though I would prefer to run than fight, or sit back and call the cops like those laws wants us to, but to be put it in such away that those laws say.... would make me second guess my every action in a self defence situation that maybe not turn out in my favor.

Some people defend themselves with firearms, real men do it with samurai swords.

I very happy to read that he will not be charged.

I know this is a but of an old bump but I know a little bit about this.

He has every right to investigate a disturbance in his garage. Perp lunges at him, student defends himself with a strikes from a Katana. Japanese sword styles are deadly. If he was a Kinjutsu student of even modest training (18-24 months), he would have struck 3 times in a single breath purely by reflex. That is the way of that sword and how it is used.
