Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

I'm not going to argue with your choice of blade style, if you want a tanto, get a tanto. Just as a heads up though, there are cheap, easily carried alternatives to using your knife as a pry tool.

Seems like a cool little tool but not really functionl for what I need it for. To me my knife is more of a tool then a weapon. A couple of examples of what I use my knife for in a week.

Open a box
Create a hole in a ceiling tile for a cat 5 cable
Cutting and stripping a cat 5 cable
Prying the front panel off a computer

I've thought about carrying a leatherman type tool before but I like to be able to acces the blade one handed for emergency type situations. I guess It's not really so much about a tanto style blade as it is just have a reasonably think blade. It's that most tanto blades that I have seen tend to be thinker then the others.

Emerson Reliant, nothing better under $100 that meets your specs IMO.

I carry a Kershaw Blur assisted opener every day...I think they make a tanto version that fits your specs...

I love mine...it cost me about $65...carried it daily for about three years now.

Bark'n, I totally agree with the Griptilian. Its a great carry knife, I have the thumb stud style and have found it to be very utilitarian. The mini works for everyday carry and the full size is a good defensive tool. Benchmade has a winner with these and the price is very reasonable.

Sorry If I'm repeating anyone else but I'd recommend a Benchmade Mini Griptilian. It meets all of your criterial perfectly and I believe the axis lock on them are the best thing since peanut butter. I have 3 or 4 knives with the Benchmade axis and it makes one handed opening or closing ideal and makes it VERY fast to deply the weapon.

I bought it for him on Ebay. I don't remember what seller I bought it from but, it was not this one. It's a nice knife. Quick & Easy one hand opening and the ARC Lock is great.
The lock is the lock that locks the blade open. Very Strong.
There is no lock that keeps the blade closed.

One flick of the thumb and that blade is out there and ready.

SOG Mini Vulcan Tanto Sani Mai Folding Knife VL-04 - eBay (item 260479630560 end time Oct-19-09 1803 PDT)

I paid about $80(something ???) plus Shipping plus Insurance.
So you'll need to shop around.
I am a "fan" of SOG blades. I have carried this one for almost 10 years. SOG Flash II (Straight edge)
They not only make GREAT blades, but "stand behind" them.
I have a long "history" with their blades.

In addition to the folder, I own 2 fixed blades.
1. This one I carry reg. in my "kilt hose" (in a leather sheath ) SOG Mini Pentagon

I also have the pictured below. ( note this knife is a replacement for one I carried in an other world & another place, which was very similar )

Rollo:

TOPS Knives has 65 knives all under 3 inches long (not all of them are under $100 though!)

TOPS Knives.com

They don't get much "buzz", but I love their knives. My family has 5 of them, and we love their products.

They excel at customer service too. Their knives always come with a "grab bag" of goodies, even t-shirts, and a hand-written note thanking you for your purchase.

They are an excellent hybrid of handcraft and machined goods that will serve for years to come.

Check them out!
