Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

I'm waiting on Spyderco's take on the old REKAT Warrior!

If it's the Spyderco Warrior, color me unimpressed. The blade geometry on the front quickly pulls the cutting edge away from a strike so you don't get good "bite", the inverted edge is serrated for god knows what reason, and it has a Hugh Jass hand guard on it like the designer is expecting you fence with the bloody thing.

Looks like an excellent example of "all show, no go" to me...

Agreed. The Warrior looks like something Gil Hibben would come up with. Like it wouldn't be at all useful for any real world need.

Fixed blade recs

bump

Newbie here. I'm also looking for a knife (self defense only) and it seems most of the recommendations here are for folding blades. I'd prefer a fixed blade because they seem stronger and because I can.

I live in Texas so anything under 5.5 inches is good to go. Any suggestions?

You mean this:

KA-BAR TDI KA-1484? Looks pretty vicious.

Any idea where I could buy this for the best price?

Awesome, does it matter if it's serrated or not? I'm thinking serrated would be the way to go, but I have never owned a knife before so I am open to suggestion.

for SD I prefer Plain edge, clean cuts and no hang ups.

If I am right that knife is a slashing knife so a combo edge would be pointless and since its just going to be a SD knife.

someone has a thread going about a diffrent SD blade that I liked in this section, ill find it.

EDIT:Knife Review: Spyderco Street Beat

the spyderco street beat is its name, awesome looking knife and the price is not bad at all. Im a spyderco fan though.....

Cool thanks for the link Kenny. Looks pretty hardcore but damn, $150... I couldn't see myself spending that much for my first knife.
