Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

New Gerber W/ Carbon Fiber Handle

I picked up this knife today.. I haven't seen one like it, and for the price in my area ($50.00) I thought it is/was a great deal! It's a first production run knife, as I think that is kinda cool also. I couldn't find a whole lot of information other than this:

Gerber SL 3.25 Carbon Fiber Handle
· Blade: 3-¼”
· Open: 7-3/8”
· Closed: 4-¼”
· Weight: 5.8 oz. (Seems lighter, could be me?)
· Titanium liner
· ATS-34 stainless steel blade
· Carbon fiber handle

Anyone feel free to chime in on what they think, or if they have one. Now for the knife porn!!

It's a thumb stud open. The first time I tested it out in the shop I was shocked. Opens like glass(Smooth). I really don't care for this style of open, I like a quick deployment. This one has me thinking differently. The action is effortless and smooth as glass.

EDIT: This is my first Gerber knife also, and impressed so far...

is the grip slick or does the texture come through to aid in that?

Great texture, and not slick at all. The texture is there. With the blade open the top of the blade has real aggressive jimping to keep your thumb/finger where it should be..

I knew that CF saved on weight. Once it came from the store display case to my hand, I was in awe.. Very light weight..

COOL. I'll head to my local House of Knives and see if they have one.

I wonder though, how long that smooth action will hold over time...in the element.
