I have a friend who has offered to sell me his Scattergun Technologies (prior to Wilson buying them) Rem 870 w/ a Vang 18 1/2" barrel and extended mag for $900. The gun is in good condition (some bluing wear around muzzel and along magazine from pump handle). It has standard ghost-ring sights w/ tritium insert in front blade. Do y'all think this is worth it? I do need a good defensive shotgun, as my Rem Model 11 is getting to be almost 100 years old.

Would suggest that you check out the Wilson Combat website for their 870's.
I think that the ScatTech is overpriced. ------- |

I know Vang Comp mod'd guns command good prices but I too think that sounds excessive - particularly when you consider how relatively inexpensive a std 870 would be.

As for 870s I'd go with a new Police version. They are better than the Express, which is still good and only $299 or so. You could get the 870P with ghost ring sights and still have alot of money left over.
I'd add a stock from Knoxx, Mesa Tactical shot shell holder, a good sling, and a Surefire forearm. You might be able to do all of that for the same or a little more than the used Scattergun Technologies. |

That is way too much for a used ST shotgun even with with the Vang Comp IMHO.
I purchased a NIB 870 Wilson Combat Border Patrol (minus refinishing) for $575 shipped from an LEO on Glock Talk who's wife was expecting their first child.

You can find a Benelli M3 for that price, certainly an M1- far superior in every respect.

thanks
Thanks, I thought that seemed excessive. I looked at Wilson and their Border Patrol is $875 new.

I agree, get an 870P, put some ghost ring sights, and then add some mesa tactical gear to it...you would have plenty of change left over, and have a new weapon.
