my 2 cents. why limit yourself distance wise with a pistol cartridge. ? 30-30 will reach out farther and should work well enough on anything you need to shoot.

I hear ya Rocky, thats why the 30-30 sits cleaned and loaded in the truck and I have not swapped it out for the 44mag model 94 to date.
I'm just torn between which to carry of the two I guess. They are both awesome rifles, and like handguns, I can't carry them all at the same time Brownie |

I've got a Winchester '94 that was made in 1954 .. so yeah.. I kinda refuse to carry it in my vehicle for that reason alone.
However, I like the idea of a lever action rifle for tactical purposes. Ain't a dang thing wrong with it. Along those lines, here's an interesting read: http://warriortalk.com/showthread.ph...ighlight=30-30 *edit* My mistake. You gotta be a registered user to access the page :(

Shotgun?
Mass-Driver brought up the point of carrying a shotgun as opposed to a rifle. I actually have considered a shotgun, but here are some of the obstacles
1. The pump -- I don't know why, but I have the devil of a time trying to pump and fire a pump shotgun. I'm just super clumsy with it. I thought about automatics/double barrells, but never quite warmed up to the idea (I'd prefer a double-barrell to an automatic). 2. Length -- Shotguns have to have an 18 in. barrel, while a rifle can have just a 16 in. barrel. The shorter size seems far more manageable, even though it's just 2 in. shorter. 3. Appearance -- A policeman I talked to once told me that if i"m ever pulled over, to be sure to mention I have a gun in the car. Wouldn't a 12 gauge shotgun sound a little strange as opposed to a shorty lever-action rifle?? But what do you guys think? Do you guys like carrying shotguns as opposed to rifles in your cars? Or maybe I could be a mall ninja and carry both..and a couple of ceramic plates to protect against returning fire, lol. Last edited by Risque007; July 20th, 2006 at 12:41 AM. |

Puma .454 lever action is on order. Be a great truck gun plus I own 2 454 pistols.

My own thoughts run toward the idea of a truck gun being a longer range/more accurate weapon than the pistol I have with me.
A shotgun covers neither of these two requirments for me personally. Brownie |
