IMHO, the 6.5 Grendel, and the 260 remington are good rounds, but will probably not garner enough support to creat a plentiful and cheap ammo supply.
The 6.8 SPC on the other hand is not as impressive a round, but is much better on paper than the 5.56. Personally I like the upper that Barrett is coming out with in 6.8 SPC. Of those 3 you mentioned the 6.8 is the only one that has a real shot at becoming a military and LE cartridge, and therefore is the only one that will be in plentiful supply. That would be my choice ased on logistics, but the 6.5 Grendel is one sweet looking round nonetheless.

Can ya tell i been reading the book of the Ar..lol
i was thinking the 260 would be cool as it is the least likely to go away since it is all ready chambered in bolt guns |

If I was sticking to a reg sized AR-15 I'd go 6.8SPC if I wanted something with more pep than .223 for a general use rifle.

Not to nitpick, but I believe the .260 Rem aka 6.5-08 A-Square is designed for the .308 frame since it is a 6.5mm bullet in a .308 case. The .308 case will not fit in the .223 chassis.
There are three uppers I am getting for my AR: BCM middy in 556 DPMS carbine in 6.8SPC 50BMG upper, bolt action of course The 6.8 offers a good compromise between the 223 and 308. The 6.5 Grendel can't be reasonably compared with the 6.8SPC because the 6.8SPC is an intermediate cartridge whereas the 6.5 Grendel is a long range cartridge. Here's what would be cool: Make a 7mm WSSM and a .30 WSSM in an AR. Oly Arms makes the 223 and 243 WSSMs in the AR, so we already know the case will fit the chassis. I bet if you wildcat the WSSM case to 7mm and .30, you could get 7mm-08 and .308 Win ballistics out if it. I'll take both in an 18" barrel flattop upper please. |
