Dang, you are the second one that's posted a "tricked out" 30-30. You guys are really making me wish I had not sold mine a couple of months back....

It happens every once in a while.

Mr. Hill,

Thank you for the kind words about my rifle, which has been dubbed on several forums as the Redneck Tactical 336. The stocks are Ramline synthetics. I really like them. They are lighter, and the the forend is thinner than the stock wood. The only issues with them is that they will allow the heat of the barrel to transfer through them when doing a good bit of sustained fire.

I'd like to take on the Spikehorn models and play with it a bit. An 1894 in .357/.38 to match my S&W 13 would be a nice combination as well. There is some .357mag ammo that will match .30-30 out to 50 yards.

I know the 336 isn't a replacement for a AR or anything, but it should be able to handle any mess I could get myself into, hopefully.

I looked at the Spikehorn, and it's a dandy rifle. My only problem with is the short youth length stock. It can put the bolt right into my eye socket. But if you are planning on swapping stocks right off the bat then that is the way to go. Saves you some bucks from having a G-Smith cut down the barrel.
Getting an 1894 has been a huge temptation for me too. But I think I'd want to get one in .44 Magnum.
Did you see the magazine article about the one in .50AE? That is a light and handy howitzer right there.
I'm thinking about getting the Ramlines myself. The green on my stocks were because they had some damage to the finish and I was really bored. I'll be taking it all black as soon as I can.

One thing I forgot to mention... I have the 1 piece firing pin kit installed. It really slicks it up and lightens the trigger pull. I had a trigger job done and then the 1 piece pin.... now my trigger is almost too light. It is a very crisp 2 pounds. And with a target crown done after the chop, this all makes for a super accurate little rifle.

Betty... Now that was funny.

Where'd you get the one piece firing pin?

My gunsmith ordered it and put it in for me while I was having the barrel chopped.
I think he ordered it from Brownells, but I'm not sure. Could have been Gun Parts.

Those 10-22 kits are a lot of fun.
I wish the Mossberg kits were better though...
