Rifled Slugs

Can any one recommend a rifled slug for a smoothbore 12 ga. maverick 88. I'm not looking to shot at anything past 50 yards. Just trying to get a concensus, thanks

Long time since I had or fired any slugs but I did use Brennike (spl) when I did and out to the 50 yard region were plenty accurate enough. I think they were one ounce.

Try too maybe - a web search on ''rifled slug'' and see what you can find.

I shoot rifled slugs through my winchester 1300 once in a while. I have nothing but a bead for sights and have been very supprised at how accurate they can be. I've shot mine from sandbags out to about 75yard and get groups in the 4inch range.

Forgot to mention I've shot both remington and winchester's basic 2 3/4'' rifled slugs depending on which one happens to be on sale at bass pro at the time. Both perform well for me. I stay away from the 3'' slugs. The recoil of the shorter ones is plenty stout for my taste.

I like Lightfield 2 3/4 Hybrid Sabots. 1 1/4 oz slugs. I shoot them from my 18.5" barrelled Mossy 500.

bh153dc-

You didn't state a purpose for the slugs.

I will second the Brennike; I lived in Indiana most my life and rifles are not legal for deer hunting so most people use shotguns and slugs. The Brennike are accurate and the design is devistating on deer sized animals.

I would use either the tried and tru Brennike or the newer Federal or winchester round with the polymer ball in the base of the slug, for just general hunting at 50 meters and under.

But if we are talking home defense or SD I would go with the Berk'

Yeah, I shot some 3" slugs in my 500 and found the recoil to be a little 'robust'. And I am not someone who usually really notices recoil. Probably because I was shooting them from a rest. It was bashing the heck out of my cheek after a few rounds.
