The barrel length question has been addressed, but to that I will add that I think there is also an overall lenght requirement of 24". I'm not 100% certain and am not willing to take the time to look it up right now, but you might want to check into it for safety sake.

Of course we didn't say anything until after they left, but all of us guides had some good laughs at their expense later.

I would advise getting a spare barrel and solid stock (not necessarily wood) for hunting, or better yet, buy another gun strictly for hunting.
I agree Sarge, a nice Browing Citori.....oh yeah.

I kind of think that all hunting shotties should have wooden stocks. (In other words, bird hunting with anything that is specialized for HD would look kind of odd. Just MHO) Plus, why go through all the hassle of storing/swapping barrels? Sounds like a drag to me.

Cool 870 BTW, I prefer the stndard stock vs. the pistol grip, but the OD looks sweet.

I'm thinking along those lines now that I've got this gun pretty much perfect for HD. I'm just going to leave it in HD mode full time. Putting more thought into it, and with my luck, I'd have it outfitted for hunting and need it for HD. I'm loving the stock when practicing moving around the home. Had a buddy over last night that does entries for a living and he raved about using them in his work.

I agree about the hunting shotgun, I'd love to have pretty wood laden 870 wingmaster or maybe a pretty Browning semi (my bro-in-law has a nice one) for doves.

This is a crapy phone cam shot of an older 60's Wingmaster I just bolted some stuff onto and converted. Stuff I had mostly. Picked up the Black stock and pump grip off eBay for $30. Bought a couple clamps, a cheap sling and a 7 shot tube extender (could have gone 8" with this 20" barrel) and away we go... All the wood and other barrels I had are all still stored away. Had that little streamlight. Had a Improved cylinder smooth bore slug barrel with rifled sights already (thats 20 inch) so it was fairly inexpensive to convert it to this. I don't hunt much anymore but could I suppose. Would not take anything to hunt deer with it. Would have to return to lower shot capacity for birds.

Anyway I finished this the other day. But this started its life as a pretty wooden stocked Wingmaster. And could be one again in half an hour.

Looks like I need to run the vacuum too...
