Do any of you have good sources for uppers I've checked out J&T and MA. I want a good one that's not very expensive. Any help would be great.

I think J&T is about as good as you can do for a new upper as far as price/quality goes....though there is also Model 1 Sales and they are known to be not very expensive...thought they aren't supposed to be really high quality either though so...M1S has them for 470 w/BCG. Not sure what J&T is selling them for.

having said all of that, I've never worked with either company, but I've heard more good things about J&T than I have about M1S

buttstock can stay the same...some people may change the buffer for certain setups...I don't really know enough about it to answer this one though

My buddy had a 9mm AR. I found it disapointing for my area as we have 200 yrd shots sometimes. Might be good for close in work.

The main reason I want an 9mm AR is for fun. Plus I think it would be good for home defense becuase you don't have the problem with it over penatrating. My HD carbine now is an M-1 carbine which is great but if the SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens 30 carbine is going to run out fast. That's why I want a 5.56, to have the same platform avaible in 9mm would be a bonus. Bud, if you our anyone else sees a hole in my thinking let me know. I value the opinion of the forums memebers.

A lot of AR shooters, myself included, tend to use the magwell as a front pistol grip. You cant do that with a glock-mag OLY because of the way that the bolt hold open works. You can do that with one of their other pistol-cal carbines, but they dont have the BHO.

The main advantages that OLYs have over colt-style 9mms are the price, and availibilty of magazines. But C products is tooling up for stainless 20 and 32 round magazines for the Colt SMG (and clones), and mags will be less than $30. Should be available by mid-december.

The 9mm OLYs I've handled also lacked the 9mm specific brass deflector. Not a big deal if you have the luxury of firing form the correct shoulder, but it is if you're a southpaw like myself.

Another thing I hate about the OLYs is that all of them appear to be A2s. I prefer the A1 (with the A2 aperture). RRA doesnt offer an A1 upper, but they do offer an A3, and superior arms makes an A1 carry handle. If not for that carry handle, I'd probably just stick to A1s. I got two A1 carry handles and a BUIS in a group by at arfcom when I didnt have an AR.

The main drawbacks of colt-style 9mm is price (worth it, IMO), and magazines. C products will be adressing one soon.

Bud, my HD carbine is a 9mm RRA, my lady's choice since that's what she's most comfortable with. If your lady is anything like mine, its gonna be a pretty big fight to get some rangetime in with it. Once she picks it up, its a real pain to get it back from her.

From the ammo oracle...

"Although some police departments use the Hornady TAP ("Tactical Application Police") round, which is merely a hotter-loaded V-Max varmint round, the primary motivation for adopting this ammo is preventing over-penetration of both bad guys and of interior walls. It should be noted that many of these concerns are proving unfounded as testing on interior penetration is increasingly showing that 5.56 rounds are less of a overpenetration risk than even the 9mm handgun ammo that many departments deploy in submachineguns for interior raids."
