You could buy a revolver with a magnetic ring trigger lock. They don't shoot unless your wearing the rings. Supposed to be very reliable. Good for kids. They don't translate very well to semi auto though. http://www.smartlock.com/test-r.htm

I think I described what I had at some point in the past but will do so again since it seems to come up every once in a while.
I have an electronic/manual lock for an 870 that comes out of a police car. To that I wired up a key pad that I bought. in the end I get a lighted keypad lock that holds a single shotgun and prevents it from being used while allowing it to be kept loaded. I plan at some point to add a batter backup but in the event the power is off it currently has a key backup. It's very fast and very secure from small hands. It prevents the action from being worked so it can be kept loaded on an empty chamber with no worry of the gun going off. I plan on getting a similar unit for my AR, but I am going to have to fabricare a block that will prevent the charging handle from being pulled. You can get these locks at streichers, or galls...I like Santa Cruz locks for the price...you can also get some very nice racks to mount them too, but I couldn't afford the mount so I went with something that I created. The lock looks like this: ![]() This is the one I will most likely use for the AR: ![]() various mounts: ![]() ![]() Then there is always the Mossberg Loc-Box that you can get for $35 but in my opinion it's not as fast or as secure as the electronic locks. ![]() |

No kids in the home now....so I just nailed a shelf to the top of the bedroom door jam frame and painted it. Screwed a couple of plastic covered "U" Hooks at each end which cradles the side by side "Coach Gun" with the exposed hammers nicely. It wears a "butt cuff" of reloads (4 shells) and is mostly for my wife. My H&K USP 45 with the gunlight on the rail sleeps under my pillow. I like the "Hammer Gun" because the cocked or loaded status is easily checked. However, I may replace it with my Benelli. Wife likes that one, too.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.
I check my safe and it dose not have a “day-lock”. I think I will go with the locks they use in police cars and bolt it to the wall |

I keep the 1300 under the bed. I don't have kids but my bedroom door has a deadbolt lock that gets locked when ever kids are over.

It was actually my wife's idea; both to name it and the name itself.

I keep my 18.5" 870 under my bed. When I go out of town I put it in the safe. I don't put it up during the day because I'm in and out every day of the week and I want it to be out when I'm at home.

I am in the market for a safe which will remain locked at all times. I figure i will keep the heavy artillary in there and just have my gun vault by the bed. After all, a pistols main use is to fight your way to your rifle(or 870)
