Sorry, I lost sight of this thread after originally posting it. It still stands that the DPMS is made by Continental Machine & Tool and they make both Colt, S&W and another that are milspec guns that fill government contracts. Compare them side by side and you can see it with your own eyes. The individual companies do, however, assemble the components so I guess it's possible quality control could slip on the assembly portion of the manufacturing process. My DPMS was delivered with no problems and trips to the range have produced no problems whatsoever. No gunmaker is perfect, however so YRMV.

My DPMS "mutt" (Stag Upper on DPMS lower) runs just fine.
