If you are not joking tell me where I can buy the 7.62x39mm round for $110 a 1000. The closes I can find around here is $175-180 for that amount. |

things have gone up since I have made my last big purchase of 7.62x39mm ammo! $109 is the price I paid for 50 cases of 1,000 round packs!
Midway has them for $159 per 1,000 at AIM there are two brands (not wolf) that go for $149 per 1,000 http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/7_62x39.html and here: http://www.ammunitionstore.com/ you can find 1,000 for $149 my my my how prices went UP! Pays to buy in bulk when times are good doesn't it? :D |

Not bad prices! I wonder if the price will drop even lower? I know there have been a shortage for a long time. I can still remember a 1000 rounds for less than a $100.

We went out two weeks ago and shot through 1/2 inches of solid steel with a friends SKS. Punched a clean hole(Sorry no pics). I was very surprised. More surprising was that the hollow points penetrated the steel at a distance that the fmj wouldn't. Explain that ??? These guns are not for the home and that is for sure. I'm bet they could go through 24 pieces of wall board since a 9mm can supposedly go through 12. http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot1.htm The awesome part is this display of power turned on my woman and now she wants an SKS ![]()

A few years ago I bought 120 cases at less than $50/case from a dealer who was going out of business. Still got most of it.

Due to increased shipping costs, prices for 7.62x39 will most likely not drop back down.
If ammo availability is your criteria - take a hard look at the surplus market right now. There isn't a lot going for the 7.62x39 in terms of price and availability anymore. As for AR's not being able to digest wolf or surplus ammo - that's simply hogwash. I have had the pleasure to know several AR's that will digest just about anything without a hiccup. The AR unreliability claims are mostly internet ballyhoo and keyboard commando banter. It sounds like you're just looking to round out your arsenal - and in that case, the SKS's are hard to pass up for the price. The AK's - I would put that money in the piggy and save up for that AR (or perhaps Rock River's new LAR-10 they have coming out?). You already have a good battle rifle (mini-14) that is far superior to the AK. |

I’m going to respectively disagree. Reliability wise, a mini-14 can’t touch an AK. For parts and magazine availability, the AK is also a much better choice than a Mini-14. The Mini-14 may have a slight advantage in accuracy, but that advantage is slight in my experience. The Mini-14 is no AR. Now if you’re saying the Mini-14 is a better weapon, based on the caliber that is a whole different debate. I like both rounds, but I like the .223 in an AR and the 7.62x39 in an AK.
