Sks mag question
I know they're heavy and ugly and many don't like them
...but I've been considering picking one up. I've heard the 30 round mags dont work well. Anyone know more about this? |

The SKS, in it's original configuration, is an utterly reliable and quite accurate semi-auto battle rifle. They weren't designed to use removable magazines, but there are many aftermarket mags out there.
The ONLY one I have had good results from is the USA brand. They work most of the time in most SKS's. You can't go wrong with a SKS, but if you're looking for a MBR with easy mag swap capability, get an AK47 or AR15. just my .02

Good info thanks alot. I looked at a PWA AR-15 yesterday .223 it was only $599 used. I almost put it on lay away, but I waited. Just kind of tossin around some ideas now. Just wanting something to mess around wtih at the range.

As discussed in another thread, there are also potential legal pitfalls of putting a 30 rounder on an SKS.

Yea, I've shopped around today and asked some questions and pretty much decided to get an AK.

Question about the SKS mags- when you talk about putting a 30 rounder on an SKS, are you talking about a 30 rd non-detachable, or detachable, magazine? If it's legal, I kind of like the idea of being able to pull out the 10 round mag and slip in something that would accept detechable AK mags. But, I get the impression that the 30 rounders for the SKS is just a 30 round version of the 10 round standard fixed internal magazine. Is that correct?
