What do you think about the collapsable stock
I'm thinking about gettinga collapsable stock for my AR, but I would like to hear opinions on wheither it's worth buying one and switching it out with the current stock.

Crane Stock
The only retractable stock worth purchasing is the "CRANE" SOPMOD stock. The standard M4 type stock has mostly been replaced by the "CRANE" stock. Depending on how much your willing to spend, this may not be to your liking. LMT (Lewis Machine Tool) has them for $264 on their websight. I've used this stock for some time and cannot imagine going back to an A2 stock or the standard M4 retractable. It's certainly a personal preference item, but the LMT SOPMOD gives the shooter a nice a 500 thread count pillow to rest his or her cheek on.

On the AR I personally could live without one.
But, they are a nice add-on. I would not add one just to have one but, depending on your intended use for that firearm a collapsible stock could have some value. |

My CAR style stock seems to work fine. Some guys have said their beards get caught in the buffer tube/stock area while shooting though.

Unless you have to manuver the rifle in tight quarters such as a vehicle there is no practical reason to go with a collapsable stock , and weapon ergonomics do seem to suffer a bit .
That being said ... LOL The ar platform is pretty much a " barbi for big boys " so dress the little sucker up anyway that suits you , if you dont like it well then put a whole different suit of clothes on it . LOL |

I like the M4 stock. It makes it easier to transport and also makes it more user friendly when the wife or kid shoots (ok, the kid hasn’t shot it yet, but when she does it will be more user-friendly for her). And to me the ergonomics do not suffer at all. I am just as comfortable with a collapsible stock as I am with a standard.

I like the M4 stock for two reasons:
1. Adapts the gun for my wife, who is smaller than I. 2. In the short position, makes maneuvering the gun indoors much easier. Matt

The ACE alloy collapsing stock is excellent, and will take any pounding that might need to be done with it.

I have a cheap Chinese made slider for my Ar off of CTD. I like it. My main reason for getting it was storage space. Second was to try and get the OAL to less than 30" so it would be considered a pistol in MI and I could carry it in my vehicle loaded outside of a case. I missed it by 1.25", so I have to find some other gun to do it with.
I haven't shot it yet so can't comment on handling, although it is nice that my wife can adjust it for her munchkin stature. |
