If TJ were alive AND we still had the limited govt he and his colleagues constituted, we would have better, cheaper weapons than are available at this time. Being a wealthy man, I'm sure he would have state-of-the-art, high tech surface-to-surface and surface-to-air rackets, perhaps a few combat aircraft, etc. Everyone else (us not-so-rich folks) would have full-auto military weapons. After all, you have to keep the politicians in line, right?

The founding fathers never intended the central govt to be able to impose tyranny on the people.

Theyre fun to shoot, and very good defense weapons.

If I am ever involved in a serious situation, may I only be so lucky as to have one of my Ar's or Ak's with me at the time.

Just wanted to contribute to the thread :)

Nothing more fun and useful than a good, reliable, lightweight carbine.

I love to shoot mine i have 2 for compitition 1 for home defensea nd 2 full auto that are just a blast. and if my state would allow them for hunting i would buy one of the DPMS's in 300rem saum. they are regular rifles the problem is the main stream thinks they are assulat rifles when no one can really define one... my MP5 9mm in full auto could be an assualt rifle, but its not so that term is useless. their fun accurate reliable and oh yeah really fun............

I don't own an assault rifle. None of my weapons have ever assaulted, nor been used in an assault, nor will they ever be used in an assault.
Assault is an action, not a device.

assault is an action, but an assault rifle is a device. It is a term that describes a specific tool, that few of us have. It is a select fire rifle chambered for a round that falls between normal rifle and pistol caliber. But then, I think that has already been said. If I assault you with a Stevens 200, it still isn't an assault rifle, just a rifle that was used in an assault. The action has nothing to do with the machine.

The AR-15 or Ak-47 are the most common rifles in the world! How could you get a more "regular rifle"? Go to your local gun club and watch a AR-15 competition, they are fun and take A LOT of skill and practice. The AR-15 is one of the most versatile rifles out there and can be anything from a pistol to a long range masterpiece. I'm really glad to hear you ask, rather than assume. I always wonder why shoot a old blackpowder gun like they used in the old days. Then I went and shot one.......just cool!!! I'd like to make one now.

My AK47 just simply works, no matter what type of ammo or AK mags I use. It's definitely my first choice in a SHTF rifle. The simplicity of use and ease of cleaning just makes it so much better, and is fairly accurate out to 300 yards, plus they're just fun to shoot. I also personally think its a great looking gun too!

Exactly...

Plus, they are exotic; that's the reason why I own an NDM-86 in 308. Sure a G3 clone would have been cheaper and done essentially the same thing but an SVD is just sexier.

Nice Romy!
They(AK's) do look great, don't they!
