I have a very nice DPMS.

As far as ar15.com goes, lurk awhile before you start asking questions, and try the search functions (it doesn't always work).

Have fun.

huh? you had a problem with Colt? now sure I understand.

I, so far, have no problem with the complete Bushmaster I bought nor the RRA upper that I just received. Seem well made and both carriers were staked well and fit and finish was excellent.

Have no problems at all with the Colt Match Target either. Except the price that is. It is a tad better but not by a whole lot that I can tell. But it serves a different purpose anyway.

I would go with a http://www.slr15.com
These are designed and built by people in the field who depend upon their weapons to be reliable and to save their lives.
I too thought this was a bunch of mumble jumble until I had the opportunity to sit down and take one apart, train and shoot with one.
A lot of thought has gone into the design of these and corners were not cut. Forged uppers and lowers, enhanced bolts and extraction systems to name a few. And for the price it's not that much more to get quality. They will be coming out with a new rifle soon that will truely change the way people look at and train with AR15's. I had the opportunity to shoot a prototype and I can just say....I am on the waiting list once they roll out!
Now alot of you might say...."well I never heard of them".......need I remind you about another company 20yrs ago that revolutionized the automatic.....they too were new....and their name was Glock.

Any AR15 is fine for a beginner. The rifles are actually fairly simple to breakdown and maintain.....CLP goes a long way towards keeping them running smoothly.
I would recommend a Rock River Arms Elite CAR A4 (Pete at Legal transfers in NH will take care of you http://ar15sales.com/index.htm), but if you go another route (Bushmaster, CMMG, Armalite, Colt, or any of the dozens of makers out there) make sure you go with a mid length, get the .223/5.56, and get a chrome lined barrel. (RRA ECARA4's from Pete come with a Wylde chamber which will accept both the .223 and the mil spec 5.56, and chrome lined barrels.)

You won't regret getting one, they are loads of fun.

You could also consider an A3 configuration which has a flattop upper so that you could mount optics at a later date, but comes with the detachable carry handle so that it looks like and A2 and you can shoot it with iron sights until you are ready for optics.

Be VERY careful, AR's are fun to shoot and you might want more than one.

As far as which brand to purchase, you may consider what your primary use will be for such a critter....
The main thing is to make sure that the gas key is properly staked and I like Crane O-rings for durability as well....
I have a Bushy V match, a Stag m4-gery, and a Colt 6920....
I have an SLR15 Operator on the way.....
The Colt has the best fit/function by far but I have yet to experience any major problems in any of them.....
I am looking forward to breaking in the Sully rifle when it gets finished....

Ah, "The Grail".... ;o)
You would be wise in that choice sir.....

Just check out the parts list.....

Sully was kind enough to call me and answer all my questions prior to placing my order and Sally (his wife) has kept me posted regarding progress on the rifle.....

One of the beauties (that's right, beauties) of the AR-15 is that the primary function is pretty much the same across the board. Pick a major brand and you'll be in good shape. There's also a great deal of interchangeability, a key element in the design. For example, one of mine is currently assembled with a Rock River Arms M4-type lower and a DPMS upper. No problems at all.

It's just a great, practical design for a long gun, and a lot of fun to shoot.

If you really want an AR15, M16, etc., look into Rock River Arms, DPMS, etc. Both offer good quality rifles with all of the old 'nam qualities. If you want a good DVD on the weapon use, takedown, cleaning, etc. go to www.gunvideo.com. Great DVD on all of the above. I bought a Rock River Arms AR1240, base price $935. Yeah, you can probably get a used; read: clapped out, version anywhere for a lot less. Then when you find out what's wrong, you can spend another $500-$600 at the gunsmith to make it right. They've got a great warranty, and offer many upper configurations that will fit without gunsmithing on your base lower. Mine has iron sights, 16" Wilson air guaged barrel, two stage trigger, and even with my old eyes (68 yrs) with iron sights at 100 yds. I can shoot 2"-3" inch groups with factory ammo. Don't be discouraged by the prices. Thery're worth it. rockriverarms.com.
