It started smoking a little early, didn't it? Must have had the metal well oiled to do that. Good gun, though.

It is a rifle I have always lusted after - but somehow doubt now I'll afford or find one.

Oh well - the FAL is a good friend so - it'll have to do

Thats the one rifle above all else I want to own, but doubt I ever will. Man I love those, every time I've ever seen one I just drool. To bad I can count those times on one hand.

The Galil is the ultimate AK - having had each individual part reworked/upgraded starting from the smallest spring and pin up to the fully milled/machined receiver & premium match grade barrel. The highest quality material having been used for each part.
I bought my first one way back when they were being imported by Magnum Research at a cost of slightly less than a grand.
Now the "asking price" has just about quadrupled for an example in Mint condition.
Designed from the ground up to be a basically indestructible firearm under the harshest conditions.
They are heavier than your typical AK being originally produced as a fully automatc squad weapon.
The 1 in 12 rate of twist needs the lighter weight bullets to achieve maximum accuracy which is pretty incredible.
Sadly, the Galil has been shoved off to the side in favor of the Tavor which is a doggone freaking amazing rifle in its own right.

It's not the real thing, but Atlantic Firearms is getting some converted units in that are Galil pattern rifles...

I'd like one, but there are a few more affordable ones on the list first
