When we sell one of these laser sighters at the store I ALWAYS remind the Customer to TAKE THE BOLT OUT of the rifle, or take the mag out and MAKE SURE the rifle is NOT LOADED, as all they need to do is sight the gun downrange and NOT shoot it.
I actually had one Customer that asked" how do I know if it's on target if I don't take a shot. I asked him if he would enjoy a bolt in the face, or a new project gun, as the BBL would explode as in the pic.........He thought about it and said "ohhhhhh yeah now i get it" geeeeeeeeeeeesh

I wondered when I first saw those photos if they were phoney. That is until I saw my friend's heavy barrel Colt AR15. In his case he pulled the laser bore sight out, but the end had broken of and was jammed in the barrel. It did not split the barrel, but there was a visible bulge. It did kick the bolt back and jam it. It kicked a spring out the hole where the forward assist handle is. It knocked his scope off and it hit him in the face. Definitely not what you expect. The bore sight manufacturer has settled and the friend has a new AR.

The mythbusters tried to recreate that exact outcome but could not do it with a shotgun. Thats interesting that, that little metal thing caused that much pressure build up. It must have been really jammed in there.
