Pistol caliber carbine ammo...

What ammo (preferably controlled expansion ammo) works best in a 9mm carbine?

Well, that would depend. Whats your intended goal? Life insurance or paper punching? What kind of carbine are we talking about? A PC9, camp9, AR (bbl length?) an HK MP? Lots of variables to consider...

It's for home defense.

And it's a hi-point 995. (I've done a lot of research and I think it will do the job.)

Depends on what the individual gun will feed reliably.

From what I read in a mag, pistol caliber carbines are better fed +p ammo so you do not lose velocity travelling down the barrel. Make sure the gun is rated for +p.

It's rated +P+.

Specifically, has anyone tried Wolf 9mm Hollowpoint?

Doe they expand?

The exact same ammo you use in your 9mm ccw pistol . I assume you got the carbine so you had ammo commonality so just adjust the sights on the carbine to shoot poa poi. If you got say a kel-tek it may well share mags with your glock , s&w , ect.. shoot the same ammo .

I'm probably mis-reading you here, Miggy, but it appears that you are saying that the longer barrel of a carbine (compared to a pistol) will cause the round to lose velocity? Just so we're all on the same page (and, again, I'm sure I'm misinterpreting you) - carbine length barrels significantly increase the velocity of bullets (all other things being equal) when compared to pistol length barrels.

As for the original question: I use the same ammo in my Colt 9mm SMG (10" bbl) as I do in my EDC pistol, for reasons stated already - I know it feeds well, I know it is a good quality expanding round, and it simplifies my logistics!

Opfor actualy many pistol rounds will actualy loose velocity out of a 16" tube since all the powder is used in the first 12" or so .
