I'm in the same boat

I am right handed and left eye dominant. When I was in the military I shot left handed (and always took some brass in the face) but it felt comfortable and I was accurate. Stag Arms actually make some nice AR15s for us left handed shooters.

But when it came to shooting pistols it was a different story. It didn't feel comfortable shooting left handed at all. But my accuracy is so much better when I do. I have been practicing a great deal drawing and shooting with my left hand now and feel that it is slowly becoming more natural. I have been doing left hand strengthening exercises as well.

For all you right handers who shoot lefty: Keep fighting the good fight and force yourself to learn lefty. It'll get easier.

I am also right handed, left eye dominate. I don't really see it as a problem.

When I shoot a scoped rifle I close my left eye, shoot right handed and sight with my right eye.
Shooting a pistol, I shoot with both eyes open and the left eye does the work. It takes a little practice but not much to get the master eye to do the work.

My right eye is worthless so shooting with my left closed would be dangerous. Shooting with both eyes open, right-handed, doesn;t work for me either. I found that since I shoot my rifle well lefty, I should learn to just shoot my pistol lefty as well.

That's what I started doing about two years ago. It really wasn't very difficult. I still practice all four grips (left only, right only, two hand left, two hand right), but the two hand leftie actually feels the most natural now.

Right handed, left eye dominant & can not wink my left eye. I've tried for over 25 years, I just can't and neither can my 2 brothers, so we figure it must be some weird genetic thing.
I discovered this back during rifle merit badge when I was 13 and having a hell of a time hitting the target consistantly. The instructor said "try shooting lefty" and guess what? I started hitting the black. I've learned to deal with it and shoot lefty. Some guns are better than others- top ejecting Winchester 30-30= casings to the forehead! Overall it hasn't proven to be a real problem since. I tend to favor ambi setups so my wife can use them if need be.

I have the same problem you have but it has never been much of a problem for me. While shooting a rifle I simply close my left eye and everything works fine. With a shotgun however, it gets a little tricky. For the last ten years that I have been shooting shotguns, I have used a few methods of helping this. The most effective is to put a strip of scotch tape at the top edge on the left side of my glasses. When my cheek lays down on the gun I can not see the bead with my left eye so I naturally focus with the right. With some practice I learned to slightly close my left eye (in the absence of tape) which causes the same effect.

The whole two eyes open thing is only for depth perception in tracking the target (triangulation). If you close the opposite eye you would be just as accurate with a RIFLE using your left or right eye (unless your tracking a fast moving target). Don't be fooled by the eye dominance thing. I am a very accurate rifle shooter with my right eye and a decent (for how often I shoot) shotgunner with both eyes open.

I am left eye dominant right handed. But wait it gets worse I have no peripheral in the left eye which means no depth perception and my right eye is so weak thers no chance of using it. Now as far as shooting goes handguns I use right hand. All long guns Left. Bolt gun can be bought fom savage. Shotguns doen't matter any are good with practice. Now if you are like me and can't afford a stag ar-15 I would reccomend an ak-47. you would be surprised how easy they are to manipulate when shot lefthanded. And the good thing is you can get all the tacticool accessories for it like the ar-15 now from companies like ultimack.

I'm right handed - which is to say that I throw right handed, fight right handed, play soccer, baseball, basketball, cello, etc... all right handed. I do write left handed though. My right eye is dominant - but its nearsighted. I call it my "reading eye". Its worthless for anything else (although hopefully Lasik will fix that). I shoot handguns right handed, usually with a weaver stance - lots easier to line up the sights with my "good eye" (left) that way. I shoot rifles left handed. This is awesome for tactical reloads on a shotgun - my left hand stays on the grip and my right hand is just where it needs to be. For AR15 type rifles it is a bit of a PITA but I've been in the Marines for a few years now and I've learned to cope. I keep my left hand on the pistol grip with my thumb on the left side ready to flip off the safety. Once I flip it off I transition my thumb back over to the right side where it should have been all along. Even a tap rack bang is harder for a leftie. I "chicken wing" the rifle then I can knife hand the charging handle with my right. The hardest part of all is changing magazines. There is no "pass in flight" for me - since the only way I can get to the magazine release is with my right hand thumb, I "beer can grip" the magazine while depressing the release with my thumb and strip the old mag out - and I'm fast as hell getting a new one back in there. All I can say is, try everything out in slow motion, and once you decide what's most efficient, practice until is becomes muscle memory. And PM me if you have any questions.

+1 to aus71383, that's basically everything I do as well. Practice in drills, it gets to be second nature.

I just wanted to chime in that I'm basically right handed everything, but still left eye dominant.

I can shoot rifle and shotgun on both hands, but when I go to the right hand, I have to close my left eye to be able to align the sights (iron) If I don't, I get crosseyed for some reason. If it's an optic, i can keep both open relatively easy.

Pistol shoot right hand too. For left hand it works really well because for quals, weak hand shooting I can score high as well.

Everyone is put together a little different.

I'm left-handed and right eye cross-dominant.

It doesn't really affect my handgun shooting, I shoot left most of the time, and simply align the sights to my right eye. One's eyes aren't they far apart anyhow.

I shoot rifles right--handed, I suppose that's one advantage over being a right-handed cross-dominant, most rifles are meant to be shot right-handed.
