You need seven US made parts since you have a muzzle brake. The forend counts as one, pistol grip one, buttstock one, muzzle brake one, for four total so far (that I can see). A US compliant trigger group would be three more, or you could use US made mags (three parts). So if you go the mag route, you'll need to send all of your foreign mags to me.

I'm not certain of that interpretation although I've heard it many times. The rifle is bought with 100% foreign parts, that would mean every time I broke it down for cleaning I would be violating federal law.

IANAL and there's probably more to this. The point is moot as the rifle is now in compliance.

Note the prohibited part. Your rifle as imported, was not prohibited. If it had a pistol grip, it would have been prohibited. So when you add a pistol grip, you turn it into a rifle prohibited from importation. By adding the correct number of US parts, it is no longer an imported rifle, according to BATF regulations.

I think I got it now. Dumb law if I ever heard of one.

Notes on trigger group replacement:
1. Perform a functions check after assembly.
2. Don't install the hammer backwards (it will not cock if you do).
3. The kit comes with a small tube/spacer for the trigger and disconnecter; this was not present in the stock parts. It is not optional; the trigger will not reset properly if this isn't used.
4. The kit comes with instructions, read them.

I still haven't been to the range, but I already have observed the following:
Much lighter.
More comfortable to hold (that old stock was nasty).
Significantly reduced movement of the trigger while cycling (had a problem with trigger slap before)

2 months late but she's been to the range now. 120 rounds at steel plates (no grouping, sorry)

Tons more comfortable than the thumbhole.

The trigger is a huge difference. First, there is no slap. I don't have to save it for the end of the range session and I can fire more than 2 magazines without aching.
The trigger is a lot lighter too. Substantial creep but a crisp break. I have no way to measure, but a lighter pull than an M-16.

The heat has me a little worried with that plastic forearm, but it seemed ok after 120 rounds. These things definitely don't cool like an AR.

I've discovered a great dislike for the open sights. I'll want to replace it with a peep sight next.
