This very well may be the case.

Just thought I'd point out the difference between "Romanian" and "Century Romanian" for those that weren't familiar.
I second this. I have a Wasr-10. It is a very reliable rifle and for SHTF scenerios, it will do what I need. It is ugly, poorly finished and when the "monkeys" put it together, it must have been either Monday morning or Friday afternoon. I got it at a gunshow. Guy was walking around with it on his shoulder, for sale. He told me it was hanging up when firing, bolt would not close all the way. I took it home, took off the top cover and after looking for a while, I saw that the rear site tunnel was canted a little to the right, making the piston rub and hang up. The bolt was rubbing bad on the hammer. I have MUCH patience with machines. Man made it, man messed it up, this man will fix it. A little filing and sanding, in a few places, made this rifle completely trustworthy for me. I blame all these problems on the "monkeys".

I have since been bitten hard with building my own Romanian kits. They were originally very good rifles, cut up to make money for their country and make people like me have another addiction. Patience, taking one's time, doing lots of reading on AKfiles.com and gunco.net, anyone can build one in a couple of days. You get to know the rifle inside out and for $200, you can make an AK that is up there with the best of them, in quality and performance.

be very careful...it's an addiction.
It just starts out with one little Romanian kit.
Next thin you know you are collecting by country...then you move on to try to clone the countries that you can't get kits for THEN you end up selling a kidney for a Soviet AKM kit so you have a centerpiece to go with your Type 3.

I wish I could afford more of them...I have gone crazy lately with them. ...now if I could only afford all of the 922(r) compliance parts to actually build them.

What do you guys think of the ARSENAL AK BULGARIAN SAM-7? I've seen it priced for $1400. What gives? Are Arsenal AKs that great? Or are they greatly overpriced?

I second the Yugo M70s, but if you get a Century make sure the sights aren't canted. Mine were (I was in a rush when I bought it), so I sent it back to Century and they fixed it. But it was a month without my favorite black assault rifle!

Right now I have an Atlantic Arms Bulgarian SSR 85 at the top of my wish list. I had one in my hands a month and half ago, but for some reason I didn't get it. Bad mistake, as now I am hunting one down. I like the thicker receivers and the black polymer furniture on my AKs.

Cheers! M2

That does look nice, M2. It will definitely be on the list to check out when I have the money together. Thanks.

I have an Arsenal. It's like Yugo built by craftsmen. You need one.

I have a Yugo and I love it. It was made by Century and yes you do need to watch out for canted sights. You can get some tacticool accessories for them now. Ultimak makes a scope rail for it now and they also have a picattany lower forearm for them as well. As far as I know nobody is making a synthetic buttstock for it yet.

+1 and it did not cost anywhere near $1400.
