Just bought my new Mossberg 30-06 black synthetic stock with scope and mounts. I paid $500 brand new with case and the scope is a 3x9 BSA with dawn/dusk red light cross hairs. Looks great cant wait to shoot it. I hope it is a good price.

My favorite rifle cartridge. None better! Sounds like a good value to me. Your new rifle will ably handle a lot of different shooting chores.

Wasn't aware really of Mossy as a source for a rifle - should be good and also - another here looking fwd to a pic or two and some thoughts on performance once you get it to the range.

Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but....
If it is a model 100 ATR then you could have bought it at Wal-Mart for $250. Then bought a cheap scope and been out the door for around or even less than $300. On the other side of the coin.... I am planning on purchasing one of these pretty soon. Most of the reviews that I have read praise these rifles as being really good for the money. They are not tack drivers but they are capable of around 1 inch groups @ 100 yds. with some loads. You may need to try out a few brands to see what your rifle likes. Please post pics and do a range report to let us know how it shoots. Here is a small thread that I posted on these rifles last week: Mossberg Bolt Action Rifles

I've seen a couple of buddies using these rifles as their truck guns while going through the South Texas Brush Country. Riding down the sendero and spotting a Javalina or Nilgai at 100 yards or more, I tell you what, it's a good darn rifle & cartridge combination to have by your side.
Congratulations on your choice, looking forward to that range report and pics! |

If you purchased this gun for self-defense then you have a man stopper extraordinaire. Just ask some of them old timers who used the Garand in Europe and the Pacific during WWII. Keep in mind, however, that it is also a real penetrator and if you are living in an urban area its is just flat out innapropriate for use there. A good SD shotgun would serve you much better.
