NO!!! A mag tube extension WILL NOT WORK! The extensions that you're going to bring up with that Ebay search will all be identical to the one we make (some may be milled aluminum, some may be glass-filled nylon), and DO NOT FIT Mossbergs because they can't!!! Don't get stuck with something you can't use!!

Good point, Rob72. We work VERY closely with Mossberg, so my head is NOT too far up my butt when I'm spouting all this 'MOSSYS CAN'T TAKE MAG TUBE EXTENSIONS' mishmash.

The models Mossberg has issued with an extension come from the factory that way and still have a retaining nut that impedes further modification. Our tubes work on Remington and Winchester, but if someone has a bigger mag tube on a Mossberg, it is a custom job and was probably a hell of a lot of work.

Yep, no tube extensions for the 500 series unless it is the factory version with barrel.

5+1 is all I get in mine. If I can end something in the 6 I have on hand (no shell-holders as of yet and maybe not ever), then I am transitioning and hoping for the best!

What about the 835? I don't see anything on mine that would prevent it, and IIRC, removing the spring retainer is described in the manual as "if it doesn't come out on its own when you removed the cap, you'll need to ____." The hard part would be finding one that would match up even with the length of that 28" barrel.

Now how many 3.5" loads would that hold?

Nononononononoooooooo!!!!

The brackets won't allow you to use a screw-in mag tube extension on a Mossberg. Period. NO Mossberg. That is why NOBODY MAKES ONE FOR A MOSSBERG! If someone tried to sell you one, they're ripping you off!

Sorry guys if I'm getting a little testy over this one.

I'll bail on the thread by saying that if you wanna' waste your money, go buy a mag tube extension for your Mossberg, fit it and then call me up to tell me what an idiot I am (I have been known to make mistakes, but on this one, I'm right).

I wasn't talking about an extension. Mossberg makes a replacement 20" barrel with an 8 shot tube.

HERE

I'm guessing it's the same barrel and mag tube used on their 8 shot Persuader/Cruiser models.

But, hey, if the experts say there's no way to increase the capacity of a 6 shot 500, who am I to argue.

I've seen Mossberg 500's with extended mags. Try contacting Mossberg. Oops, did not see the above post.

Colin
My 500 defender will take 5x 3" and 1x 2 3/4". My 590 will take 9x 2 3/4"

I actually find the 20" barrel a little long for the bush and prefer the 18.5" I also normally only load 5 rds into it as the full mag makes it front heavy and feels unbalanced.

You might want to tell the scam artists at these fly-by-night companies about that.

Brownells
Midway

Choate

Of course, one could also blame Mossberg's hard-to-accessorize reputation on the people who keep buying little sissy-guns like the 500 and 590 instead of the ones that take full-size ammo.

Yes yes yes. That is the aforementioned item. I was convinced you were looking for the mag tub extension. I'll calm down and shut up now.
