Hi Guys,

I'm a pistol guy that knows little about rifles and I'm having some trouble with my BM Ar-15.

Basically. I can't get the bolt assemby out of the bolt carrier. The manual said to just turn the cam pin 1/4 of a turn and then lift it out. The cam pin doesn't seem to want to turn, I even grabbed it with a pair of pliers. I don't want to break anything so I didn't quite go all out, bit felt like I turned it pretty hard and it didn't move.

Any tips? Much thanks for any advice. I'm a having ton of trouble with the first cleaning - maybe I should stick to my glock

Since I don't know how far you have gotten on this I will just sort of go by the numbers.
Firing pin retaining pin removed from left side of bolt. (looks like little cotter pin) ***** Don't lose this!!!!******* This is in some circles refered to as the "OH S***!!!" pin.
Raise the front of the bolt/carrier assembly and the firing pin should drop out the back.
Now the trick is positioning the bolt in the carrier so you can rotate the cam pin and clear the gas key. You might want hit it with a little solvent and work the bolt back and forth in your hands a couple of times to losen up any crud thats inside.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, on reassembly be sure to replace the firing pin retaining pin!!!! It is very easy to forget as it is quite small. If you dont replace it the firing pin will come out of the back of the bolt and drop into the lower. At this point most people that have neglected to replace it utter is nick name! You might want to acquire a spare or three as they have this amazing ability to evaporate if you take your eyes off of them for than ten seconds!

yes, make sure your firing pin retention pin and your firing pin have been removed first or your cam pin WILL NOT move. Your firing pin keeps the cam pin in its place, so if the firing pin has not been removed the cam pin won't move.

If the firing pin is already removed and your cam pin still won't budge, then you have a problem bigger than me to answer.

If the cam pin is sticky just keep wiggling it and it'll come. A little lube like mcp1810 mentioned is a good idea. This might be obvious, but the bolt has to be in the "unlocked" position (back) when you take the cam pin out. It sounds like you either left the firing pin in by accident, or your cam pin is just sticking....not a big deal either way.
