The Saiga 12 Pic and Info Thread!

I didn't want to hijack my own thread on the AK-47 line by interjecting a lot of questions about Saigas (especially since all the AK info I'm getting is helping me a lot in making my choice. thanks guys!!), so I made a new thread for it! So, to all Saiga owners:

1. Why the Saiga? What made you go for the Saiga over the AKs and the SKSs of the world?

2. As always, links to good sites for Saiga info. :-D

3. Ammo -- Do you prefer .223 or is that the only round that it comes in? Isn't it somewhat more expensive than the 7.62 x 39 rounds of the AKs?

4. Usability -- I plan on using the rifle for camping trips and as a car gun. Will it perform these functions well?

just for a heads up the saiga series of rifles comes in .223, 7.62x39, .308, as well as 12 gauge 20 gauge and .410 bore. Usually people only say saiga 12 when referring to the 12 gauge variant.

Why Saiga? I wanted a .308 and until I can afford a Springfield M1A the Saiga meets the need. You can see photos here.

I wanted a Saiga because it was the most economical choice even after shipping and transfer in my area.

I like the SKS, but didn't want to play with duck bill magazines.

Why .223? I figured I'd get it in .223 since my wife would be shooting it too, and I already had a big crate of .223, actually HSM Lake City 5.56 reloads.

In .223 there is almost no recoil, its a very user friendly round coupled with the AKM action.

Just like them I guess.. and they are easy to fix up in different configurations.

I converted it, started it on the 4th of July this year.

I bought the US parts I needed from the guys that make the Ultimak rails, turns out they are local to my area, great guys to deal with.

If my State Firearms license was renewed this year, I'd try to pick up one in 7.62x39 and one of the shotguns, may as well have a matching set, hopefully I'll be getting the others I want once the license thing gets squared away.
