There's a new Ithaca SKB 100 20ga SxS shotgun in the stable. Click on the link for photos: click here.

It's 20-gauge, with 25" barrels choked M & IM, bead sight, wood stock. Standard controls are the lever to open the action, the safe/fire button, and the barrel selector button on the trigger.

The gun handles almost like an extension of my own arm. It points naturally, is exceptionally well-balanced and is fairly light. Almost too light for long, extended sessions. However, for a light bird gun, it's going to be fabulous. Can't imagine carrying anything heavier, with this li'l guy in the stable. The previous owner took very good care of it. It's now sitting cleaned and well-oiled in the safe.

Take-down is simple: press a button and remove the forestock, then open the action to separate the barrels from the receiver/stock unit.

The other day, I shot 75 rds through it. No problems at all ... er, other than the fact that I can't recall the last time I lined up a SxS to trap clays. (Read: 30% hit ratio simply isn't good enough! Grrrrr.)

The only fly in the ointment is, of course, that it's an oldy. No manual, so no complete list of parts or a diagram. No guarantee about finding all the parts, should one of the rare ones be needed. Hopefully I will track down all the right contacts for those little gems.

After hunting around for a couple months for a great, lightweight, well-balanced shotgun for trap/skeet and occasional field use, I'm glad the opinions about the SKB 100 all turned out to be true. I'd handled an early SKB years back, but I had forgotten how "right" they feel. Wonderful gun.

Mine was passed down from the grandparents, and is not as glossy as yours. I do love that little gun; for dove, quail, rabbits, squirrels, etc. it is great. My son even shot a swan with it last year!

I would love to find a good deal on a 12 ga. just like it at a pawnshop. Then I could shoot ducks with a sxs too. Do you happen to know the model # of the 12 ga. version?

There's a season for Swans down there? What do you do with it? Eat it? I've never heard of anyone hunting swan before.

Well, a swan's just a big duck ... more or less (see photo below).

The SKB 100's a fairly light gun, quick-handling and relatively easy to bring to shoulder and point. It's no trap/skeet gun, as I'm not sure it'll take the pounding over time. But, for a 20-28ga "upland" bird gun, it's a decent choice I think. Doesn't fit me perfectly, as I'm a lefty with right eye dominance and crazy long arms, so I may need to speak with a stockmaker/fitter sometime soon. Still, am having a good time breaking it in with light trap.
