$25 Shotgun

Some girl that looked hard up for money came into the shop yesterday with an old Springfield model 67 12 gauge for sale. It has some surface rust and some pitting in the bore near the muzzle. After running the numbers to make sure it wasn't stolen i offered her $25 not really wanting it, etc.

She took the money.

And here it is after chopping the barrel down to 18.5 inches.

I still have to drill and tap for the front bead, but it should make a good beater home defense gun.

So far i got 30 bucks into it(including rifle), and about an hour of time cleaning all the gunk out and chopping the barrel down. I figure it will take about another hour to refinish the stock and drill and tap for a new front bead, and about 10 bucks for a new bead, so 40 bucks and 2 hours of work.

You did well IMO - perfectly adequate SD tool there.

This thing has grown on me and now i have a cheapy project unlike the turn my WASR into the fire breathing beast it needs to be(= $$$$$$) project.

Haha - well, I am now thinking thoughts about my old Ted Williams ....... the old originally ''from Sears" 12g with a vari-choke. Chances are that my initial investment of well under $100 could be put to better use if I ''prune'' it down as an SD tool.

Of course, my 870 and Mossy both fill that roll - but ya got me thinkin!!!

Go get a good pipe cutter, the spin around kind used for copper pipe, and have at it. Takes about 20 seconds. Way i look at it is, if i do use it, it gets taken away for a while and im only out 40 bucks.
