As I understand it the point of "cruiser safe" is so that you don't have to mess with the slide catch or safety in a crisis. Pump the slide, pull the trigger, load the magazine... safety off. You can them pump the slide without using the slide release, but the weapon is still safe without the safety on because the chamber is empty.
