I own a Winchester 94 30-30. But if I was going to buy another one, i'd probably look at the Marlin 308 lever. The Marlin rifles do seem to be a little softer shooting on the shoulder, at least this is what my wife tells me.

Marlin makes a lever gun in .308? Ahhh man, there's ANOTHER gun to put on my list of "gotta-have-its!"

I have 2 pre-64 Win 94 in 30/30 and they are great classic firearms. I would not say no to a Marlin or a Savage though. All good choices.

Marlin lever actions chambered in Hornady's new 308 Marlin Express produce spectacular performance.

308 Marlin Express
This new cartridge was developed by Hornady and is chambered exclusively in two new Marlin lever actions. It has enabled us to create the first traditionally-styled lever action rifle chambered for a true “flat shooting” cartridge.

Ballistics for the 308 Marlin Express are virtually identical to the 308 Win., resulting in enough energy to be lethal on big game out to 400 yards.

This unheard-of performance is made possible by Hornady’s development of LEVEREVOLUTION® ammunition technology, using new powder formulations and their exclusive Flex-Tip® bullet design.

The two models chambered for this round are: the blued 308MX with a 22” barrel and walnut stock, and the stainless steel 308MXLR with a 24” barrel and laminated stock.

Both rifles will be available during the second quarter of 2007.

Seems they have forgotten about Winchester's 307.

I have a Marlin Guide in 45-70 that was made before they added a couple of inches to the length. I love it. I added a Williams peep sight.

I've got a Mod 94, a Mod 336 in 30-30 and an 1895 in 45-70. I don't even bother to hunt with the 30-30s at all but there is something about the 45-70 that is a joy to shoot. You can load it up to higher pressures or use Corbon ammo in it that you can't use in an old Trap Door Springfield and with the new polymer tipped lever action safe ammo they can hold their place over a decent range.

With the LEVERevolution* XLR I can not imagine getting anything other than a Marlin 308MXLR. Excellent performance out to at least 300 yards. With almost the same ballistics of a .308 Winchester but in a lever action. How can that be beat? LEVERevolution XLR is also available in .444 Marlin, .450 Marlin, .30-30. and .35 Rem.
