12 Gauge pump
Mossberg Maverick 88

I always keep 6 rounds in it, ready to go if needed.

The Maverick 88 is a Mossberg pump shotgun model I've not heard of. I must need to get out more. I'm guessing it is of Model 500 family? Looks like it would serve the purpose and looks pretty sharp too. That recoil pad looks cozy and makes a nice addition.

It's similar to the 500 series, but better... at least to me It has less recoil then most shotguns I've fired. I have a New England break open single shot that has some kick to it... The Mossberg has me sold on little recoil.

Just a regular ole 870..nothing fancy in fact its the same gun I hunt with..I'd rather have it said in a police report..hunting shotgun than tactical assault shotgun..why give a civil suit any more ammo than it needs.

The Maverick 88 is almost identical to the model 500, about the only difference is the fore-grip doesn't have a aluminum/metal insert. The bars attach directly to the polymer, which usually isn't a problem. That and the saftey is of the cross-bar type as apposed to the top push/pull type.

It's also cheaper, I got mine for like $180 with some rounds to boot. It accepts most modifications for the 500 as well, such as stocks/barrels/etc. It's cheaper because some of the parts are produced in Mexico. However, it is still assembled in the USA, so it still bears the "Made in USA" sticker!

IMO, it's worth the saved money for a strictly HD shotty. No frills basic self defense gun. Mexican produced parts is better in my opinion than other low cost outsourced countries, atleast it's on the same continent!

One problem that is presented with the Maverick is that you can't change out the fore end, even if you HAVE to.

Sure you can, all you have to do is buy a Mossberg 500 forend sleeve/rails, then you can use any Mossberg 500 or aftermarket forend!

They are like $20-40 on gunbroker usually

Garn,

I stand corrected. Those changes would make it work, in theory. I couldn't speak for whether or not you could get our fore end to fit, in that case. Lemme' know if it works, please!!!

Hey,

I haven't actually done this to my model 88, but have read of others that have on one of the popular mossberg 500 shotgun forums so I'm sure that it's the case! The barrels are interchangeable also, as are the magazine tubes!
