I bought a new Mini 14 with synthetic stock and couldn't consistently hit a paper plate at 20 yards (bullets tumbled). Sent it back to Ruger and they stopped the bullets from tumbling BUT DIDN"T IMPROVE THE ACCURACY at all.... I traded it for a Bushmaster ( great gun, but ugly ).
Too bad about the Mini. I liked the looks and feel better than an AR , but I could throw rocks more accurately..... Very disappointed in Sturm Ruger service.... YMMV ( I hope) .... mike PS: they are supposedly making them more accurate now. We'll see.... |

![]() Yeah, you only have to pay what you'd pay for an AR for guaranteed 2 MOA. Seriously, if you get a good Mini, they are decent, or if you have the money and inclination for a project. |

I was pinshooting last night, and hanging out in the gunshop in between. when a guy comes in to trade his Kel Tec SU for 4 Mini-14 20 round mags. The mags were $70 each! (Of course this place squeezes the last dime out of every transaction, but still!)

I still like the size and feel.... How do you find a "good Mini " ?? (without spending the money) I cringe at the idea of taking another beating like I did the last time...... mike |

I think most of 'em are great! A little pricey for what you get, but still very cool. I'd go for a Mini 30 if you can!

I have a Mini 14 Ranch rifle that I carry in my truck. It goes bang every time. It has a scope and I hit what I am aiming at. I use steel magazines with no problem and I never paid $70 to $100 dollars for them. It has never had anything break. What are guys talking about when you are talking down Ruger.
P.S. It works like my M1A. Don't have to change methods. Semper Fi |

Intended Use?
If backpacking is on your agenda, I think the main advantage of the Kel-Tec is it's weight and folding stock design. For sturdiness and long term reliability, I would (and did) go with the Mini. The Kel-Tec just felt too flimsy/plastic for me. That built in forend bi-pod looks like a part destined to malfunction.
If you are not looking for a folder, I think the Mini's weight makes it more shootable, and for a truck gun it's a perfect size. |
