The instructor at a class I attended put it this way:

"Is that your home defense weapon?"

Me: "Yes"

"When are you at home?"

Me: "At night"

"Is it dark at night?"

Me: "Yes"

"You need a light on your home defense weapon..."

No problem with either...as you long as you train with them...particularly in "downed officer" or other awkward positions.

The light: yes.

The laser: no...don't bother.

More then happy too. I should of had a Liberator months ago but the company is still making modifications.

On a side note, one of my friends does have a Liberator and several things which made me decide to get one.
  1. Easy to reload a handgun while controlling the light without fumbling
  2. The handstrap breaks away, good if get into H2H situation
  3. Easy to adapt left or right hand

What I have not had time to do is play with one personally, only while at my friends house.

A light is a great idea on a shotgun. I'm not too convinced about the laser though. I would just stick with a SureFire forend....I've seen countless other lights mounted on shotguns fail. SureFire is the best hands down especially if you plan to practice with it alot.

A laser on a home defense shotgun is kind of pointless.

Anything inside your home will be within 15 or 20 feet usually, why would you need something to help you aim that short of a distance?

If its a combo light/laser, its probably a little more pricey then a light alone. I would go with a light alone and put the other money elsewhere. Maybe in a nice side sattle for extra ammo, or even a tube extension...maybe even some nice sights.

It already has a tube extension and I'm getting a full length mag tube right now. New tritium sights are next on the list after the light.

I had this discussion with a gun shop owner, the shotgun was shipped to her from the dist with a laser and a light..

I had a laser for one of my tupperware pistols and one night while hearing strange noises in the garage.. I found myself paying more attention to what the laser was hitting and getting 'tunnel vision' in a way. Not aware of my surroundings in the least.

I have since switched to a flashlight, and when I find one I like I'll mount one on my shotgun.

Lasers are bad m'kayyyy..
atleast.. that is my opinion.

I have the Lasermax combo and highly recommend it if you are still considering it. For those that balk at the money, it's less expensive than many Surefire setups, but that's not why I would say to go for it. I can now quickly put a slug COM out to 25 yards without really having to aim. It's just point and shoot. For those that wonder what the point of a laser on a shotgun is, my shotgun is now a reliable 75 yard bush rifle, camping defense rifle, HD weapon, and SHTF rifle all in one because I can much more reliably hit my target with slugs. If you don't want all that, you can just get a $5 flashlight and be done with it!

A load of shot at 10 feet (fairly common SD distance) has a "spread" of only about 4 inches. That's why my Rem. 870 has a light/laser combo (Lasermax). That old malarkey about "you can't miss with a shotgun" is a big crock of brown stinky bovine gravy. At 3:00 am, whilst dealing with a guest who entered without an invite, one needs every advantage one can get.
