I was thinking about putting a light, or possibly a light/laser combo on my Benelli M4 that I am working into my main home defence weapon. What do you all think of this idea?

I know LaserMax now has a light/laser combo that fits between the barrel and magazine tube. This might make it more convenient as it will be close in and not hanging down below the weapon.



Any other suggestions?

The light is a good idea, I'd would skip the laser and put the money else where.

Tactical light on any weapon is good thing. One on your shotgun would be excellent.

The laser in my opinion would be waste of money best spent elsewhere for a shotgun.

I think lasers have a place on tactical carbines and handguns, but really not necessary on a shotgun, in my humble opinion.

I wasn't really looking for a laser for the same reason you all have mentioned. The only real reason i even mentioned it was because of the Lasermax system that I posted has it. Get the light, you get the laser.

I have looked at just lights but those are slung under the weapon and can get knocked around. The former mentioned system sits between the barrel and mag tube so is closer in and probably better supported and sturdier.

Anyone have suggestions for just a light?

Surefire makes one that replaces the forearm - pricey but nice. Avoid unnecessary wear and tear by replacing with the stock forearm while at the range.

go with the light. surefire makes a good light. they have a forearm light and they have a mounting kit thats takes/works with their m3 pistol light. i put the surefire m3 pistol light on my rem 870. that way if my m3 light on my "raids" gun goes down i can pull the m3 light off the 870 and put on the pistol.

Not a great picture, but here's how I mounted an Insight M3X on my M1S90. I prefer a mounted light on a HD gun especially a long-gun. A laser is more of a personal preference. I know that in my case, my pattern is about centered in my light beam at HD distance, so it's sort of a wide beam laser if you want to look at it that way.

I prefer this setup to a dedicated forearm beacuse I can quickly remove it for practice or switch it to another railed gun if needed. Besides the Benelli I have the same setup for my 6920 and a couple handguns, so I'm used to the controls.

I also use my Benelli for muskrat/beaver control on my 9 acre pond and I've used it for a couple low-light classes. So far the M3X has held up well.

Personally I would skip both. Right now I am looking at a flashlight from First Light were the flashlight wraps around your hand and is very easy to operate. Having such a flashlight permits one flashlight no matter what weapon you have and makes reloading a snap.
