Mercalf,
The only ammo I use is winchester white box, S&B, both 115 gr FMJ, and remington 115 gr JHP; these are the least expensive ammo types I'm able to get, they serve the practice and defensive(JHP) needs just fine. The wwb and remjhp I get at walmart about $16/100 rds and the S&B I get by the case online $140/1000 rds; aimsurplus.com or ammunitiontogo.com usually has the S&B; though sometimes natchezss.com has some good deals ..just have to hunt around their website! Hope this helps.. |

Mercalf - you're getting some good advice here. Keep it simple and keep your purpose for buying in mind - Plinking and SHTF. I'd avoid telescopic sights. A red dot makes sense. Flashlight, in my opinion, would be a good idea. Top rail will cost you about $80. The unit comes with side rails that are iffy at best. You should think about buying the rifle at your range and they will install the top rail at no charge. This weekend is sale weekend there. Get the one that shoots the 92 mags. Also, the Kel-Tech rep will be there this weekend. If you don't have the $$, go and talk with the rep about alternative ideas. :)

Here is a thread with some more info on the CX4. Mine is 9mm that takes the standard 92 mags. I have used 10 round and 15 round factory mags and 30 round Pro-Mags with great success. The thread on the second page tells the kinds of ammo that I have shot through it. Also here is a Beretta link that gives the info about the various models and what kinds of mags are used with each.

Thanks for all the help, but I really do need help on deciding the type of flashlight to use. I don't want a battery whore, but I don't want anything short of great quality. I'm sure it can't be one of those 6 and one half dozen scenarios...or is it? |

Surefire X200A (3 watt LED) is the rail-light you want. Or one of the Surefire dedicated "Weapon Lights". Not the cheapest...but among the BEST.

I've got to chime in here about Wolf. I use it a lot in my .45 and it's dirty. However, it's not much dirtier than other ammo. If you clean your firearms after each session as you should, I don't think you will encounter too many problems. Periodic use of the JB Cleaner I gave you will help A LOT. Don't go overboard and DO NOT listen to anyone who tells you it will kill your barrel. I've used it for years on my Anschutz and put over 12,000 rounds through the factory barrel. Accuracy and function were NOT affected at all. I've used it in my hunting rifles and pistols without any adverse consequence.
Wolf is good practice ammo. I've never encountered a misfeed or FTF, FTE or anything. I would not, however, use Wolf as my primary life defender! Having said that, I still think you will continue to find WWB at Wally World cheaper than you will anything else online. :)

I haven't used Wolf in the Beretta. I have used in my SKS 7.62X39mm and Remington 7615 .223. In the SKS what can I say, the Wolf was made for it. A little dirtier than other ammo, but not enough to stop me from using it. In the 7615 I have used the regular and the Gold version. The Gold is brass cased. Using the Gold I see no difference between it and Winchester or Remington. The regular is dirtier, but again I don't find it a major problem. I clean my firearms after every trip to the range and whether I use Wolf or another brand I don't notice any significant difference in the time required to clean the firearm.
It is possible that I would notice a bigger difference in 9mm than I do in the rifle calibers.
