So your talking 1/8th MOA @ 100 yards with handloads ?
Are you going to change out the trigger and barrel also ?

Great rifle. Which bullet are you using? I shoot a 130 grain Sierra Gameking in the federal factory load w/my .270 but I'm looking for a good setup for my .243 model 788.

No comprende, 1/8th MOA will win a world class match at any range. If anybody's talking about shooting an eighth of a minute they're usually doin' it in their sleep, and doing nasty things to their pillow at the same time. An 8th of a minute is like an inch and a quarter at 1000yds. That would be one to write home to your mom about.

Rifles are my favorite. You did good! Remington 700's are always appropriate. The .243 looks like an outstanding handloader's cartridge. The .24slot is unfilled in the rifle rack and I'd like to change that. It'd be fun for Texas whitetails.
The Remington 788 is an impressive rifle too. Very modern and a good value. Any I've seen through the years at the local gun club were accurate. It's a real shame that it was dropped from the Remington line. It probably was too good a bargain and cut into sales of the Model 700. I too got lost on the 1/8" MOA remark. I know I ain't no 1/8" MOA shooter. |

The .243 is one of my favoritest rounds. Short throw, nice ballistics. I have a great fondness for these things and am the proud owner of a Browning A Bolt stalker in this caliber. And works wonderful on our small southern deer. Plus its a great plinker rifle too with its manageable recoil. I would also like to obtain the same set up in its bigger brother the .308.

Coming back to the thread to caution the OP , that if he does not know he best not trust the safety on any 700 remmington . its not an issue for me since i dont use safetys on bolt guns , but the 700 action , in some years of production has a rep for fireing when you flic the safety off . Its an issue that is hard to duplicate , and for years remmington said its a non issue that did not happen . they did however redesign some parts , and i am not sure if a recall was involved or not but check with them , and the web for an explination of the issue and fix for it . Fantastic rifle action , but all rifles have " issues " of one sort or another .

Thanks RR, I didn't know about the safety problem, I haven't had a problem with it yet but I don't rely on the safety to make the rifle safe. The best safety is between your ears. I will check with Remington to see if they have any "fixes".
I don't think I can shoot 1/8 MOA with any repetition, maybe once on a fluke!!! Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it!! That's why I hang around this place, I will post more info and questions regarding long range shooting as needed. Rex![]()
