Want a AR type rifle...

I am very interested in getting a AR type rifle. I am not very framilar the makes and models. I want something good and reliable. Looking for something with a short barrel and collapsable stock? At first I would like to stick with iron sights then move up to optics. I am looking to spend around 700.

I have a few concerns with ammo being a bit sparse now, can AR's be converted to 9mm?

Nearly any major brand of AR will be reliable and I personally own a Bushmaster M4A3 and a couple of Stag Arms lowers for future builds; my next complete AR will be one by either Colt, Noveske, or LMT as they do small things that most others don't like properly stake gas keys and castle nuts. The quality of those guns is first-rate...and they aren't cheap.

Yes, you can convert an AR to 9mm by switching uppers and mags.

Great sources of info:

I own an MP15 by S&W, had it about 7 months and have put +/- 2000 rds thru it without a single hiccup. The cincinatti police dept just went completely to
mp15 ar rifles. Mine has been reliable to a fault; highly recommend them. I also have a bushmaster 21s in .223, great gun but the MP15 is better. My .02!

Is ammo expensive? Hard to come by?

$6.47 for 20 for the walmart cheap stuff (remington 55gr). Easy to find around here.

as low as $250 per case if you mail order it. A lot of places are sold out and on backorder though.

CMMG is selling bargain bin rifles for $550. Internals are new, M4gery bbls are 1:9 and dont have chrome lining, and they have a few nicks and scratches. But for $550 I could live with that.

If I had about $600 (shipping and transfer fee) to blow I'd get one.

I like the Bushmasters for what it is worth.

I was ready to practically type a entire article on AR15's but since John posted this rifle I'll just say that for the price, since you mentioned $700 Doublestar is hard to beat.

This particular rifle can be upgraded later if your not satisfied with it's performance. However, I've seen this rifle run for 1,000 rounds straight without a hiccup.

It's already set up with flat top, profiled 16" barrel, mil spec extension tube with 5 position retactable stock and ready to accept USGI mags, optics and mounts, single integrated rail systems etc.

You could easily replace the mil spec stock with a SOPMOD or Vltor EMOD, then add in some LaRue Tactical mounts for an Aimpoint or Eotech and a Troy rear folding back up iron sight. You can replace the handguards with the Daniel Defense "OMEGA" rail interface system since it only requires one tool and no smith to remove the delta ring assembly. You can then add a foregrip, white light, PEQ laser, different sling mounts etc.

For your budget, I'd call Buds Guns and have one of these delivered to your favorite FFl.

DS ar

I've done alot of research and talked to alot of dealers around here and they all agree......Doublestar is an excellent rifle and affordable.

Since I have the yankee hill flip up comming.....I'm just going to shoot the tar out of it as is and then figure out what (if anything) I'm going to put on it.
