I tried a cheap sling for my AR with poorly written instructions. I got it strapped on the rifle and then put it on. I did something wrong cause it slipped and got tighter around me ,and there I was with an AR strapped to my chest and couldn't get if off.

It's now in a box. LOL!!!

I went with the Vickers sling from Blueforce gear. The quick length adjust works great.

Anyone try the BlackHawk V-Tac Sling MKI on their M-4? I'm seriously thinking about this one, and it seems to have good reviews. (Also under $30!) I just can't seem to find something that clearly states it would mount to the CAR-15. I don't want to pay extra for the sling attachment in the rear. Just need it to strap to the collapsible butt-stock.

as an old 3time volunteered sargeant once told me match your gear to your mission. out in the woods like your saying i'd go with a 3point or the 2point 550 sling from rangers digest 1. but thats just me and your kit should always be comfortable.

does anyone know of a good maker of a side sling swivel that can be mounted on the gas block?
i think this will be my only option to mount a two point sling as i do not have a railed fore grip.

I'd consider the Blue Force Gear Universal Wire Loop ::BLUEFORCEGEARâ„¢::

If you decide to move the sling back to the barrel nut/delta ring area, you'll have that option.

Otherwise I think some of the major makers (Bushmaster, RRA) sell the barrel mounted (under the FSB) side sling swivel mounts.

The VCAS allows for strong/weak side transitions but lest the longarm hang to the side during transitions to the sidearm. Here is the link.

Also here is an article written by Larry Vickers. Inventor of that sling.

Carbine Slings
I see that the sling goes through the slot in the stock on the back side but it doesn't show how it is hooked on. If it doesn't wrap around anything, what keeps it on?

There's like a buckle thing on the other side. I don't know what they're called... looks like an "H" with a top and bottom on it, or an "E" with a right side. You thread it through that thing - its solid. I'm sure someone knows what its called, or has a better picture - here's a place to look too: AR15.COM :: Forums :: Post pics of your slings and accessories

In Nam we used to make our own rifle slings with paracord and boot laces. One end of the sling would attach to the rear area of the front sight. The other had a part that wrapped around the rear end of the stock, through the sling swivel, with a loop and then the length from the front sight attached to the loop at the rear of the rifle. With the over-the-top sling you could easily carry the rifle in front of you, bring it up to your shoulder and it rested across your chest and did not bang your knees. We loved those unofficial slings because they were so comfortable and worked good.
