Gratuitous Gun Pron
After 14 months of searching for parts, waiting on the receiver...
IT'S ALIVE! Kudos to all the people at the gun shows that put up with me fondling their parts (gun parts... don't go there). Kudos to the people at OPS in Tulsa for doing the FFL transfers for me. If anyone is looking for a great bunch of guys at a gun shop, go see them. Big kudos to the armorer who did the initial build. This guy did one top notch job. From big things like the head spacing and indexing to little things like rasing all the lettering with gold relief, he did one of the best jobs I've seen. And he did it in like a twelth of the time one of the "big" guys could have done. And since this thread is worthless without pics I've snapped a couple with my phone's camera. As soon as I can borrow my friends good digital camera I'll post some better one. |

Quick range report. I went down today to get the iron sights set. After an embarrassing round of moving the sights the wrong way, I got her sighted in with 1/2 in. groups from prone unsupported at 100 yards. w00t! I'm sorry I wasn't thinking and threw away the targets when I left the line.

Very good. The gold lettering seems to stand out nicely.

1/2" groups, prone,unsupported,with iron sights?
Thats a bit hard to beleive. You definatley have better eyes than me and may have one of the finest shooting semi autos in the history of the world. You need to keep it. A scope would be a waste of money.

What type of chamber, what type of rifling cut ? what twist rate ? and finally, what type ammo ? You conveinently forgot the targets ? How many real shooters leave their test targets for someone else to claim ? It's a nice rifle, but never saw any M1A/M14 ever put those groups together. Especially unsupported.

Its not impossible, and I have seen shooters do it before under the conditions he specified.
However, we may have some differing interpretations of what is a 1/2" grouping. I know my interpretation is the grouping is no more than 1/2"diameter which would put the bullets into a clover leaf pattern. Also, a 1/2" group does not count if you fired 10 rounds and two of the bullets happened to hit the same hole with the other 8 forming a 10" - 12" group. That would be a 10"-12" group. My rule of thumb for claiming a group measurement is 3 rounds fired on the same target. Take that diameter and you have your measurement. If the OP here is shooting a 1/2" group, then that means he is consistantly shooting 3 bullets into an area the size of a penny at 100 yds. It is not impossible, but the people I have seen do it are world class shooters and have probably forgotten more about shooting then I will learn in a lifetime.

Well, it is gun porn guys... a 12" can be 1/2" or 1/2" can be 12" if thats what he wants.
