If you want hunting only (which you don't) - Remington and Savage are great options. For a fine tuned range machine - go with a Tikka or Weatherby.

Of the two you listed i would go with the Rem 700 action . The reason is that because it is a " benchmark " that not only is everything mesured against nowdays , but has enough use that tweaks and work on them is cheap .
However if i could suggest a different course i would go savage . A factory savage is likely to shoot as good as a tweaked out 700 or other action , and costs less . This is because they are ugly rifles , and i am not kidding . The big butt barrel nut is responsible for this as it makes timing and headspace pretty much a no brainer . Couple that with the new ( glock looking ) accutriger as giving the only current production trigger worth mentioning and you have a cheap winner that the " fine rifle snobs " dont want . My savage is pre accutriger , and i dont plan ou an upgrade . However my savage is every bit as accurate as my pre 64 winchester mod 70 , it just costs about 1/4 as much lol .

Additional note. Glock looking is it. It is not exactly the same as a glock trigger in function. You can depress the trigger without the trigger safety. However, it will not fire. If you do that, you will need to recock the bolt action (up/down).

Savages are waaay underrated. Who cares if they are ugly.

Glad for the info , so far i have limited my Savages to old style , simply because i dont like the looks of the trigger no matter how good it may be . I can tune a sav trigger easy enough not to worry about the " user tunable " version .

I had the Savage 10FPLE (sold it) and now I own the Rem 700 SPS. The Rem. action is much smoother and feels more solid. The first day at the range with my Rem., i grouped 3 rounds at 100 yards- all 3 holes were touching. Never could get that from the Savage. The trigger on the Remington is a lot smoother too... and yes, the Savage had the accu trigger.

The local SWAT team here using Remington actions - the M24 is a Remington.. The IDF also uses the M24.

And don't forget the M40A3 (a Remington) Marine Sniper Rifle. The A1 was a Remington too.

I like the Remington 700 as well. Great out of the box and are infinitely upgradeable.

Now those ARE some beautiful rifles there but a tad over the OP's budget.
