Ok, I was searching this because I was looking at a 700... wondered which model (there are a load o fthem on the website) was closest to the M24? Any reason to go with something a little different in the 700 line? Oh, and how much do they cost roughly?

Not sure which is closest to an M24...Guess your choices would be a PSS or 5R Milspec. Not sure what PSS's are going for these days...but the Milspec is @ $950-$1150 when you can find them. I sold off my PSS two years ago to get a Milspec....it was an improvement in accuracy....just my experience.

I don't see either of those as an option on Remington's website lol. Could anyone come up with a model number?

Remington Law Enforcement - Rifles - Model 700 Police Rifles
The 40x series was what the Marine Corps based the M40A1 sniper rifle on I believe and the 40 XB Tactical looks exactly like the one I carried many times on STA ops. I think you're looking for the police model though.

The 5R Milspec is an intermittent, low production rifle. They don't list it on their web-site.
Here's a nice description and review for you: The Remington Model 700 Stainless Special 5R Milspec Good Luck, Wayne |

I bought last week a Remington SPS Tactical in .308 caliber. I just finished the break-in of the barrel and at the end I shot a .75 group using cheap Federal 150 grn. bullets. The trigger was heavy and I also tinkered with it reducing the trigger pull. Tomorrow I am using 168 grn. match bullets and I'll post pics of the grouping. By the way I only paid $589.00 for the rifle and so far I think I am in love.
