I always felt the SKS possessed a certain elegance. I only own one, an old Norinco in lovely condition (it actually has pretty wood - who knew such a thing existed?) that I got into at a terrific price, and I very much enjoy shooting it. The rifle is decently accurate, cheap as all get-out to shoot, decently powerful for man-sized game, and utterly reliable now that I've cleaned the heck out of the bolt and polished the firing pin to put a stop to slamfires. I feel the SKS would be just dandy as an anti-personnel rifle, but I have other rifles that would fill the role better for various reasons.

I do agree that the SKS, like the Winchester 94, could work well as the only rifle most people would ever need. Fortunately, we're not so limited, but it's great to realize that such bargains can be easily found.

I'm so glad we won the Cold War.

I got one when they were $139, cleaned the insane amounts of cosmoline out and off of it, put on a synthetic stock, and after shooting it for a while, decided it needs a better trigger and some way of mounting a better sight on it. It's just not as fun as my other rifles.

One poo poo for me. I'm a AK sorta guy. What weapon do our "operators" rely on when the going get rough. When in sand, mud, water, the harshest of environments. For parts availability. For ease of operation. AND(most of the time)ammo availability. AKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAK.--------
