I am pretty confident that just a standard FMJ round from an AK is pretty effective. How much more effective do you really need? I wish I had a quarter of a penny for every person killed with a FMJ 7.62x39. I would be a very rich man. Might be stretching it on this but, I would venture to say over 90% stops/kills made with 7.62x39 have been made with good ole FMJ. Are you trying to drop a bull?

I would be willing to bet that anyone who has been shot by 7.62x39 and lived to tell about it will tell you that any of it is pretty effective.

Your right in a rifle FMJ is pretty darn effective but it never is a bad thing to send the very best when the need arises. I was only planning to load the first couple of mags with the "good" stuff and the rest with FMJ's due to the cost. I will however increase the number of mags with the good stuff as time gos by.

I keep FMJs in my AK. It's not my main defensive gun, and if things are bad enough that I have to go to the AK, I'm going to want serious penetration.

154gr SP Russian ammo, good for Deer should be good for self defense. It wouldn't hurt to have a few boxes of domestic hunting ammo on hand as well.
Back in the days when WW2 surplus rifles were the rage, some people used FMJ military ammo to hunt with because they couldn't get regular hunting ammo, since it wasn't being manufactured. They still got their Deer. I would say that any ammo for a HP rifle would be better then any common pistol ammo used for your EDC. |

Wolf military classic hollow point showed dramatic tumbling and mild fragmentation in a jello test I once saw and the author concluded it was the best choice for the person wanting to stockpile an effective defensive round without breaking the bank. Good luck
