Although I dont today own one, I too have toyed with "I really need one of those". I do have several 223's and love them both. But I really like the idea of a 357 or maybe a 44 mag in a lever-action weapon. I would think great for a trail/camping/off road/trunk gun too.

Not sure, but I would love a .357 lever action to go along with my single action revolver.

Sure it does! My key issue on this is efficiency. Not everyone has the luxury of a large vehicle to bug out in. SHTF and you have to bug out. And I mean you have to bug out, say something like a dirty bomb just up wind from you. Your carbine and your pistol take the same ammo, and even use the same magazines. Six loaded magazines and four boxes of ammo take up less space than a six pack. You could even carry them in my son's soft lunch box. If you find yourself in a firefight, you have a pretty good supply on hand no matter which weapon you find yourself using.

I think the OP needs to decide what he will use the carbine for , then decide if a pistol or rifle caliber would best suit his needs. While a rifle carbine is my choice due to more all around use, it may not suit others as well.

Way back in the day when IMI started selling semi auto UZI's I bought one. This was one sweet shooting little carbine. It was extremely accurate and absolutely no recoil. In a moment of weakness I sold it and have regretted it till this day. I'm not a big fan of 9mm, but I would buy another UZI if the price was right. I paid $475 for the one I had. Now if you can find one they are going in the $1800 to $2000 range.
