I would also suggest Aimpoint, but from your intended use I'd think the CompC3 would serve your purposes well. It isn't waterproof to more than a few feet, and doesn't have any night vision settings, and is priced less than the similar models with those features (that you won't likely need).

I've got a Truglo 2x 42mm dual color (red or green) and multi-reticles (4 different reticles) site on my Cx4. 2 power magnification, shock resistant, waterproof/fog proof, see-thru flip up lens caps, 10 position rheostat for brightness control - 5 settings for each color, windage and elevation adjustments, and an integrated Weaver-style mounting system. This is a great sight for the money, about $145.00. Yea, it's a step down from the Aimpoint, but cost about half as much. BTW, the Truglo has a lifetime Warranty which is hard to beat for a sight in this price range.

I tried cheap $20-$30 red dot sights that were supposed to be parallax free but they had too much parallax error at close range. I ditched them and got a Millet SP-1($60) and it works great with no parallax.

When speaking of "cheap" red dots, just how bad are the cheap BSA's? I was thinking of buying one to slap on my Ruger PC9GR when I finally get it off layaway. I have never used a red dot so I dont want to spend a bunch of money on one in case I dont like them.

If your going to be runnin and gunnin which it sounds like you will be, I would bite the bullet and go top end. I.E. Aimpoint. If you go the cheap route your going to end up paying more in the end anyway.
I have a EO-Tech without the hood In otherwords a bushnell on one of my riifles and I would much rather have an aimpoint. My friend just put a micro on her M 4orgery, and I wll say this ITS SO CUTE and it really works very well. 1) The batteries on an Aimpoint are lasting up to 7 years, on a watch battery. 2) The HUD on the EO is too BUSY IMHO. For very fast shooting put the dot on target and pull the trigger.

I must disagree as I do not find the EoTech too busy. I find the large circle really gets me on target faster and the 1moa dot is great for more precession shots. To each their own.
There are a bunch of EoTech models but if you are on a budget the EoTech 511 is the older model that used the 1.5 volt batteries. It was rated at 200 hours on a set of batteries. It was replaced with the 512 series that uses AA batteries and is rated at 600 hours or 1,000 hours with Lithium batteries. I have seen a bunch of used 511 series EoTechs going for 225.00 - 300.00 on line on various forums. This is a great price for a top quality optic even if it isn’t the most recent model. Other than battery life they are just as good as the 512 series. The 1.5 volts are easy to get at Wal Mart and they work great for most folks. None of the EoTechs have the battery life of the Aim Point.

I use a Millett DMS-1 Tactical Scope mounted on a Superior Arms S-15. I like my set up. It has a 1 to 4 power scope with a red donut in the middle of the fov. It's a real good, all purpose scope system.
